Where did country music come from...

...and why is it so popular amongst everyone that I come across? Is it just because I live in the Midwest and not on the coasts? It's really aggravating. I don't understand how the same music can be remixed over and over again and still be appealing to people that listen to it. That's basically what country is: the same G C D combination that's existed from the beginning of country music's existence (with a weak little solo thrown in occassionally). Please tell me why when I listen to the radio, all I can find is country with an easy listening station here or there.

there are a few country licks that really are tough, but none that i know that might be mainstream.

country blows. here in jersey we have rock, easy listening, pop, oldies, rap (ugh), spanish stuff, and lite FM stuff. no country.

i could say where it came from but it might offend some people so i'm keeping my mouth shut.

You have to take a side road these days to get true virtuosity from one of country's cousins, that is some of the contemporary bluegrass, Allison Krauss and Union Station, for example. Top notch musicians every one of them. But, alas, even they don't garner much attention from the country fans.

But, listen to some old school bands in the last 40 years and you'll definitely hear country influence, the Rolling Stones have drawn from country styles often, as have many others.

hahaha i think perhaps it does have more to do with where you are asking, because the people i come across despise country music. i must say im not a fan, but i can appreciate talent even if its not my thing and i suppose there are elements i enjoy, probably the more folk side of it.
the johnny irion and sarah lee guthrie cd "exploration" is just glorious, i dont know if thats considered country though. im pretty bad at matching genres.
